Ossia Symphony Orchestra Concert
The mission of the Ossia Symphony Orchestra is to perform classical music, to educate high school youth about classical music, and to provide earned income opportunities for student musicians who are members of the orchestra.
Founded in 2008, the Ossia Symphony Orchestra consists of the finest instrumental musicians aged 18-35 in New York City. Performing four concerts seasonally, the OSO supports its student players by providing scholarships and other income making opportunities that can help defray the cost of school expenses.
A main goal of the OSO is to provide classical music education programs that include musicians of the orchestra teaching instrument instruction for disadvantaged NYC high school students. The program is designed to help inner-city youth succeed in gaining admittance to the music school of their choice, and to re-establish orchestra/ensemble playing in NYC schools. The initiative also helps city schools meet NY State educational standards. By re-instituting classical concerts in schools, the OSO is creating a bridge between students, parents and local communities.
World renowned soloists and living composers invited by the OSO take part in these outreach concerts, in order to share their talent, knowledge, and experiences with students in city high schools of the high disadvantage.
